A renowned trenchless specialist’s new technology has been nominated for an award recognising innovative machinery.

Herrenknecht’s E-Power Pipe® has been nominated for an International Bauma Innovation Award 2019 in the ‘Machine’ category.

The awards are presented to sustainable and cost-effective developments with outstanding practical utility that contribute to energy and resource efficiency and humanisation of the work place.

E-Power Pipe has been developed over the last two years as a method to install small-diameter cable protection pipes underground, with drive lengths of more than 1,000 m.

The procedure closes a technical gap in the market, allowing small diameter drives with greater lengths, shallower depths as well as high precision and speed.

The system comprises a fully remote controlled microtunnel boring machine, AVNS350XB, which has an excavation diameter of 505 mm.

Initially developed for longer drives, the method has been modified so that underground cables can be installed close to the surface, at a depth of 2–4 m and in precise alignment, allowing it to cross safely under existing infrastructure.
